we have another q a and anything that i

say is definitely not meant to diagnose

replace your medical care check with

them before you implement any of these

suggestions

so

well we’ve covered you all right well

let’s kick it off from our green

room and rochelle has been

very patient she was the first one to

log on and she’s fully briefed and

michelle if you would unmute yourself

you are on with dr bird

hi dr berg thank you so much i have uh

gone deep into your videos and have

really been uh trying to learn uh how to

intermittent fast and also um eat keto

and i’m just wondering i started in

june 21st

so over a month ago and i’m not really

seeing a lot of results but i did just

get

some of your supplements that are um

with regard to the

estrogen and the

connoisseurous vegetable supplement and

the

electrolytes and so i’m noticing some

changes there but how much longer should

i expect or i’m just trying to problem

solve

my uh intermittent fasting window is

usually

uh until

three

and three o’clock is when i break my

fast every day as late as five

and um then i eat and then i’m done by

nine or by eight

and i’m just not seeing a lot of the

results i’m just trying to problem solve

it

sure

do you do you have are you primarily

wanting to lose weight or is there

anything else that you’re trying to get

from this

um hormone balancing is also another

thing that i’m really working on but

yeah it’s just a

weight loss or weight that’s just coming

on out of what seems to be nowhere

got it do you how is your um

hunger or appetite

do you still get hungry easily do you

crave anything

no i’m really actually really good with

long-term fasts i’m really good that way

but in the evening

um my stomach’s growling so i am hungry

um i’ve gone through the

detox if you will of getting hangry at

certain times so i’ve gone through i’ve

seen those changes and i’m trying not to

uh rely on the um

you know the weight or or the scale i’m

but i’m not noticing any inches going or

anything like that i am known to see

mental clarity and the things the

benefits of intermittent fasting for

sure

and so you said something about hormones

right are you talking about

estrogen dominant menopausal or anything

anything there

right

yes sir

okay

okay and you have um so this is just a

good example uh someone’s kind of uh

they’re not getting the results that

they want so i you have to find out like

um

are they do are you do you feel like

you’re doing it like

like close to what you should or is you

are you doing it sort of or are you

doing it like hardcore as far as the

carbs

a hardcore

i i don’t do anything unless it’s

hardcore so i’m hardcore about it yeah

good any sleeping problems

no um i usually uh rest uh seven to

eight hours a night and i’m pretty good

with uh sleeping through the night it’s

been really hot here in texas so

that’s oh that is a factor for sure

thank god for eric how about your stress

level

yeah how would you stress that oh i live

in stress for sure i live in stress i

have a very stressful job so yeah so i’m

giving it as much time as i can i just

didn’t you know there’s so many diets

out there that just don’t work for me

and i’m just wondering if this is one of

those diets so how much longer should i

expect

not no results until i get results yeah

okay so i’m just gonna um

so i think you may have seen this maybe

one of my videos where i talk about um

uh it’s uh

get healthy to lose weight not lose

weight to get healthy it’s it just tells

us and when i say healthy um i’m mainly

talking about

um insulin resistance and how long maybe

you have that if you have

a difficult time losing with other

programs

it just tells us that you have insulin

resistance underneath it so you you

you’ve already told me that it’s

starting to work with loss of appetite

and less

hungry right so that’s that’s good

um also maybe some slight changes with

the supplements

but i’m gonna um

it’s really important to

understand what normal is because you

might compare yourself to someone else

and wow they just lost 17 pounds in one

week and i just lost nothing so that can

be so frustrating and

you can go well i guess that didn’t work

but

here’s the thing um you have adapting

getting the ketosis which only takes

like three days

but there’s something else called fat

adaptation

fat adaptation where you’re actually

really

adapted to fat

and

i think it’d be beneficial at this point

to get one of those uh

keto uh testers that you can check your

blood and just see how much um how many

how much what’s the quantity of ketones

that you’re generating it um

is it um

below three is it is it four is it five

i i doubt it’s probably could be like

one and a half to two maybe

but here’s the thing um

you you might have to you might be the

person that might have to just do one

meal a day

and then fast for the whole day i i

think that

that’s probably going to work for you

more than anything else especially if

you’re going through menopause and i

think you know the whole hormone thing

is kind of throwing you off honestly

so i think you’re in the right direction

of trying to handle this barrier

you know at the same time that’s gonna

kick it off

but one meal a day um and have a big

meal

and also

um

when i talk about stress i really talk

about um you have good stress and bad

stress and really the difference is

the good stress is stuff you can control

the bad stress is out of your control

and the more that happens the more we

got the darn cortisol contributing to

slow results

if you were to then do one meal and add

some exercise in there and then really

make sure that you recover from it um

i think you’re going to see the best

change and really the thing is this like

if you’re we want your ketones to be as

high as possible at this space like if

you can get it to okay four or five

on the scale of things or more that

would be incredible and you would be

losing weight to get it there you have

to add

longer fasting and more exercise really

and keeping your carbs low unfortunately

those are the two factors now i will say

i had a very few um

patients in the past that

you know

they did this and they did not get the

results and we had to literally do some

extreme things to get them to get it to

work simply because they had some

um they did some really

serious dieting that really messed

things up early in their life and i had

to get them on one meal every other day

hopefully you don’t have to you’re not

in that boat

but that’s really what we did to finally

see the results so

anyway that’s my advice to you and so

try try those things out

first let’s let’s uh kick off with our

first quiz question of the day and there

okay so which contains more protein um

wait a second which contains more

protein in an egg the whites or the yolk

all right jump on it audience i know

see what he’s come up with um

first question of the day boy there’s

been a lot of them that’s great jennifer

from manchester uk on youtube i was

wondering if soy based yogurt is okay

for keto it contains no carbs or sugar

has 4 grams of protein and 0.9 grams of

fiber

i do not like soy at all

unfortunately yes you’re right it might

be low carb

but the way they process the soybean you

know okay so let’s say it’s

non-gmo um

unfortunately

and very unfortunately when they even

grow

soybeans

just to keep the

the other weeds down they have to many

farmers have to spray the soil before it

sprouts

so that affects the microbes

and they can still call it organic

unfortunately so it all depends on when

they spray it so and plus the estrogenic

effect i think the only person i would

recommend

to do soy at this point is rochelle

because of the hot flashes but even then

i probably would only recommend like

fermented and small amounts

but typically

soy especially in america is so badly

processed

it’s just it’s not something that’s

going to contribute to your health

if you’re a vegan want to do some yogurt

do anything other than soy

maybe maybe you could there’s a certain

you know nut yogurts you can do

coconut yogurt something like that but

of course the problem is they put all

these added

uh gar gum and these different things in

it to make it

the right texture

so that being said

you may want to try some

kefir

all right you heard it from the doctor

himself and later in the show we’re

going to have a nice gentleman pahal

from india but right now there’s a

question that he’ll probably ask as well

and this is from norfolk on youtube can

you discuss options for someone who

travels and tries to maintain

a vegan keto diet

good luck on that one um first of all i

think it’s a great opportunity when you

travel to do

fasting right so you do fasting you just

basically fasted the whole trip

and

also you may have some jet lag so take

some vitamin d with you take that that

will that handles jet lag so fast but

trying to find food in a an airport is

is literally impossible like real food

it’s there’s so much junk and then

of course

if they beat you anything on the plane

that’s not any better so

anyway that’s i think it’s a perfect

time to fast but

you know people try the nuts and they do

this and that but

um usually they’re rancid

and it’s pretty disgusting

well that’s the airport you got to see

the bathrooms

anyway dr berg

the first question asks which contains

more protein in an egg whites or yolk

and the audience leaked on it

immediately

with 72 percent of the respondents

say yolk and 28 say it’s the whites i’ll

be surprised if it’s the whites

yeah the answer is it there’s more

protein per weight

okay if you compare them

thinking 100 up in the yolk

so if you take a 100 grams of yolk

there’s like 16.8

grams of protein in the white it’s like

10

10 grams of protein but

of course because there’s more white

than yolk there is going to be more

protein but typically if you look at the

ratios the yelp

has

more protein which is fascinating you

would think it’s it would be the whites

but it’s not

that the yolk of that egg has so many

amazing

things in it for your health

and if you’re

even the slightest bit concerned that

it’s going to affect your cholesterol

it’s only going to improve the good the

hdl just fyi

and so

even both sides of the table people that

have

you know been against eggs finally uh

concluded um in

some of the recent trials um that okay

we we now all agree

that eggs will not

contribute to worsening your your heart

etc even though there’s cholesterol

innate

all right very good well listen uh in

addition to pahal who will come from us

and represents india and we also have uh

blair from canada

up north here’s the rest of it

from the uk canada latvia india south

africa ethiopia finland spain uganda

malaysia the netherlands brazil iceland

switzerland dubai the philippines

ireland hungary albania vietnam italy

eating shredded wheat i like that too

gary any suggestions on what you would

use to replace it

yeah something that has the same texture

shredded shredded wheat

um that’s a tough one but i

there there is some keto friendly um

trail mixes and um

it’s a type of it’s like granola and it

all it hasn’t it’s a certain nuts and

seeds and coconut flakes i mean that

might give you

a similar

type texture

it’s not it’s kind of fibrous but it’s

more nuts and seeds and

and other fibers so i think i would go

with that

um as your cereal

all right very good and this is going to

make rochelle absolutely furious cindy

from youtube my husband and i have been

doing low carb keto for five weeks and

doing great losing lots of weight

but

uh this week he gained five pounds and

didn’t do anything different

he says

uh what’s going on

so so when i run into this

you gotta really dig deep and you may

not find any change in their diet

but to gain five pounds in one week is

going to be almost impossible if you’re

doing the same thing

on the keto so it’s going to be water

weight so i would look at i would look

at stress

i mean this is really bizarre but

if you take a look at

what stress can do to the body

you can actually

you can grow a tumor

you can get cancer activate certain

genes and increase cancer

develop an ulcer

develop inflammatory conditions of your

bowel the heart

uh the stomach as gastritis

you can develop arthritis and autoimmune

you could paralyze your

your immune system

you can even um develop belly fat

because of the release of cortisol and

insulin from that so

i’ve had people

just go through a stress event and like

they’re kind of stuck between a rock and

a hard place where they all of a sudden

have this stress and then what happens

is that

they just can’t lose weight or they gain

weight

um so

that’s just another factor that goes

beyond just your

your

carbohydrates it’s not just about

carbohydrates

so that being said that i guess that

would be my answer all right here’s a

simple one from youtube amy’s asking can

you eat plain greek yogurt on keto

um you can i don’t like the yogurt as

much because it is higher in sugar and

it’s also um

there’s still a bit more lactose in

there so people have some lactose

intolerance it could be an issue and

also um

you don’t really

get to replace those friendly bacteria

with your gut they don’t survive the

stomach like keeper does

and you don’t have nearly the quantity

of microbes as kefir and also

there is some benefit of eating microbes

and that’s what you’re basically doing

when you’re eating yogurt

there are some benefits but you’re not

increasing

your flora when you’re doing the greek

yogurt or

the yogurt itself

but you know

a little bit of yogurt here and there

if you just watch the carbs on that

not a problem for most people okay very

good desert love as they call themselves

from youtube i have ulcer ulcerative

colitis and i’m wondering if iaf and

keto would be right for me

yeah but the type of definitely i f but

the type of keto i would go with the

more carnivore because that if you start

having inflammatory bowel and you start

adding fibers it could just tear up your

gut uh the other thing that

i think will be very beneficial is zinc

zinc is very good in vitamin d

but definitely um

do it because you’ll you’ll drop the

information

and i’ve done a lot of videos on this

and you’ll probably um

notice changes in your skin

because the immune system is going to be

better you’ll find that you’re you’ll

resist pathogens much better

you’ll have a lot of benefits if you do

that okay very good it’s question number

two doc

okay which is worse

for your weight

inactivity

as in no exercise

or junk food

interesting hop on it

uh

treatment for autoimmune gastritis

well the best treatment would be high

levels of vitamin d because that would

drop the inflammation it would get rid

of

pretty much your symptoms

and it will support your immune system

um

and then the second thing is fasting

periodic prolonged fasting those two

things i think would be the best thing

for autoimmune any autoimmune

there’s some great

um a great protocol by a doctor from

brazil

and you can go to the video on ms

and and get more data on that

but um

unfortunately there are certain

topics that

are kind of restricted

when you talk about them

on

social media so there’s definitely some

great data on autoimmune diseases that i

would love to tell you but i can’t

really uh talk about it unless i want to

shut down my youtube channel which i

don’t want to do so

um

you’ll just have to guess on that one

darn it

but you can answer cowgirl in arizona

aptly named from youtube what kind of

mushrooms can i use to supplement

vitamin d

oh my gosh

you can literally use make your own

vitamin d supplement with mushrooms all

you do

is you take some mushrooms

raw

cut them in half

lay them on a cookie sheet

face up

outside the sun

and dry them out to the sun one or two

days of course take them in at night

and uh you will spike

those mushrooms with so much vitamin d

i mean way more than a supplement you

can take and that’s a really good source

of vitamin d

um and by the way um raw mushrooms

you don’t get very much nutrition at all

it’s better to saute them but when we’re

talking about vitamin d sun-dried

vitamin d

mushrooms are just like hands down the

best

but if you don’t put them on the sun

the amount of vitamin d you’re going to

get is so small

it’s going to be like a joke and plus

it’s vitamin d2 which

you want the vitamin d3 so anyway um

typically mushrooms don’t contribute too

much

interesting okay we’ve got an answer for

question number two which asks which is

worse for your weight inactivity or junk

food and uh 65 percent of our

respondents say junk food uh another

third 35 percent say inactivity who’s

right

i was just really curious about that

question to see if it would be a hundred

percent because um it’s not so that’s

interesting um

yeah it’s totally junk food because

exercise only contributes 15

to

your weight loss 15 that means 85 is

your diet

so junk food is a huge factor right

inactivity is a factor but it only

contributes a certain amount not too

much

yeah i look at my little calorie meter

when i’m jogging around what we call the

loop two and a half miles it’s fairly

pitiful

if you slam down a donut you might as

well stay home

i mean it’s uh you know maybe i don’t

know i can get 380 calories out of a two

and a half mile uh run or jog but boy

it’s easy to get that many calories down

in one trip to the junk food

gas station store so anyway that makes

sense okay maria from facebook is

kombucha a good idea while on quito

um

yes and no

it can it’s good for your gut it has

lactic acid it has a lot of beneficial

things for your gut but a lot of the

kombucha if you read the back label

especially nowadays is very high in

sugar i mean it’s like

really high in sugar

um so

if you could potentially make your own

and really ferment it a lot longer it’ll

be very very um

less sweet it’ll be very carbonated

which i think that’s the best thing but

um

but try to find something with two grams

or less which is really hard um but

that’s and if you have something a

little bit higher then don’t consume a

lot of it because

there’s a good emotion that’s how they

make kombucha from it’s from sugar

so um

i think it’d be fun to make your own and

then really ferment the heck out of it

but there’s a lot of great benefits to

your gut

from kombucha

you know steve these microbes are just

fascinating

um

i mean all of you steve i would say that

all of your favorite foods

um could not exist without help from

microbes

we have

butter

we have is fermented culture butter we

have bread

we have cheese

we have chocolate that’s all fermented

and wine and beer

what more could you want

interesting well yeah you talk about

those a lot in a video recently that i

saw you spoke about the great necessity

imperative to have good uh

gut bacteria

otherwise you’re getting a lot of

trouble so let’s see oh let’s go to our

green room and next up

from canada i think you’ve been around

there a few times is blair blair does

not have a camera working but blair

you’re on the air with dr byrd

can you hear me

i recently had just a normal routine uh

checkup with uh and i was diagnosed i’m

i’m going to be 81 in september

diagnosed with

they call it heart failure in canada but

the doctor said that’s a bad word for it

because it’s not really but anyways

hardening of the of the heart walls

in its diagnosis 65 to 70 percent he

said it’s normal

and

it doesn’t pump as much blood through

your system but i exercise at least two

days a week and mostly three days a week

and i do mini fasting every day and i

just got your keto book yesterday which

i can’t wait to dive into

uh and read that so

anyway is there anything i should be

doing for hardening of the heart wall

yeah

yeah i think you’re on the right track

because um if anything could actually

extend the

longevity of your heart it’s the

combination of keto and imminent fasting

and doing it healthily

the heart muscle

and the inside of the arteries of your

heart respond best to

vitamin e

so you should get

something called tocotrinols which will

immediately help

any type of inflammation going on

in those areas of your body your heart

also will will carry more oxygen the

heart muscle itself it have if it has

enough vitamin e

um so that’s just a really important one

so um

if we’re talking about hardening of the

arteries we want to keep things

elastic and with aging of course you

have more hardening so there’s a couple

things that i would focus on

consuming

the high potassium

diet on this keto so that’s like the big

salads and things because the potassium

and magnesium are going to make your

arteries um more flexible for sure

and being on a low carb is going to

reduce any type of

inflammatory condition because it’s

really all about inflammation the body

then responds as a band-aid and makes

things really really stiff

there’s um

some other things you can do to support

the heart and that’s like

vitamin

b3 like niacin with that flush is not a

bad idea as well

and i’m glad that you’re exercising and

just make sure you get enough sleep and

and i think you’re going to

really see some even better results with

uh if you could do a

test

which i don’t know if your doctor even

knows what that is but it’s a coronary

artery calcification test

that would give you so much data on

where you’re at with the calcification

inside the artery because he says you’re

oh you’re normal for i guess for your

age but it’d be really interesting to

see how much calcium is built up in the

artery it needs to be zero

and uh

and some of the videos i’ve done i kind

of give people a scale of where you

should be and then if it definitely

shows high you know then retest it after

being on this program

for maybe two or three months

and then the one last thing i would

recommend

is that

i wouldn’t be afraid of fatty foods i’d

be afraid of carbs because

the fatty foods you’ll have

a lot of vitamin k2 which can help to

decalcify the arteries if there is

calcium in there so

get the test first and then you can see

if you really need the k2 or not or just

get it from the

fatty foods that you eat on the low carb

uh keto that’s great blair well keep in

touch with us and let us know uh if that

all

shows a nice measurable distance okay

that’s a different excuse me here’s the

next question doc

all right which makes you more tired

too many carbohydrates

or eating too much protein

an interesting question all right

alex from youtube and they always talk

about guys and testosterone alex from

youtube can cheese affect our

testosterone levels

well cheese um can affect the prostate

because it’s kind of there’s growth

hormones in there so if you have too

much cheese you may find that your

urination is kind of

not quite flowing because you ate too

much cheese and it swallowed the thyroid

the prostate now can that affect

testosterone possibly

but typically if you’re doing a high

quality cheese

let’s say it’s a raw milk

organic cheese from europe

not from america

to my knowledge i do not think that can

affect

your testosterone levels at any

significant degree

uh steve i was doing some experiments uh

on food

to test different foods and

i found

i found something at the grocery store

that i bought that

it’s it looks like cheese

but it’s a it’s an american processed

cheese product they can’t call it cheese

they call it a cheese product which is

interesting so i’m trying to figure out

what they actually put in that

processed thing that looks like cheese

slices

um

but uh

i’m i would be scared to consume that

you just melt it on top of a cam can of

spam and boy what a meal

or what about put that right in some

wonder bread how about that make a

little cheese sandwich yeah and cut the

horrible crust off the edge so you get

all the goodness yeah all right get rid

of the crust very good okay now this boy

an oft-asked question i’m sure yazan

from facebook what’s the best way to

eliminate sugar craving

well the best way is is just to not eat

sugar and then your body’s forced to

to then convert into your burning your

fat

and then that makes it easy because

try to get rid of cravings

with by having cravings is supe super

hard

i don’t recommend it why not just get

rid of your cravings and then just make

it easy on yourself

there’s a there’s a

kind of a shortcut little trick you can

do also

for cravings for sweet you can actually

buy a supplement called gemnema okay get

it in a little um

not a capsule

but a as a

tablet

like an herb tablet and then what you do

is you chew that

before you eat sweet

it gets it blocks any pleasure sensation

from sweet you will not be able to taste

sweet and so anything with sweetening it

all of a sudden you just like there’s

nothing

so if there’s no

sweet then why are you going to consume

it there’s no benefit to that so it’s

it’s it’s a great thing to ruin a party

um

i was thinking about putting into a

spray i had it in a spray at one time

but

you know i’m trying to get people just

to

not have to do these tricks and things

but i did

i was scolded at a party because my wife

karen um

was very upset when i actually sprayed

this gymnema in everyone’s mouth before

they consumed anything that we had

and completely

ruined half the foods out there because

some of them were sweet this was back

years ago well we learned don’t we doc

okay so yes we do and the audience is

learned because they’ve already answered

question number three which asked what

makes you more tired too many carbs or

too much protein and the audience

responded 90 percent of them said too

many carbs 10 percent are sticking with

protein

i know there’s always that that

small percentage but um it’s definitely

too many carbs like too much protein can

make you tired however

typically

you’re also at the same time doing the

carbs with the protein that can really

be a problem i should have probably

asked that question because like on the

thanksgiving meal if you celebrate that

you will basically be so tired because

of the combination of carbs and protein

but

but too much protein can increase

insulin it can create some fatigue but

not near as much as the carbs

very good okay as promised we’re going

to go to pahaul from central india and

paul make sure you’re unmuted and you’re

on with dr byrd

a big fan a big fan of yours

so dr bob my question is i’ve been

getting this watery diarrhea since long

time i’ve been on keto so

since last one and a half month i have

been on keto and i have been getting

this watery diarrhea even after i just

drink water so i mean

uh it is very tough on me i’ve been

taking your electrolyte powder so it has

been keeping me moving but

it’s really hard on my body so just

wanted to know

what should i do i am a vegetarian by

the way

and i take cottage cheese uh in the

morning with sauteed with ghee

and in the evening i take avocado salad

and

the other salad the tomato and cucumbers

when

before you started keto

you didn’t have diarrhea correct

no

okay

so what’s happening is you have

an imbalance with your microbial

gut

flora so you need more

of the right microbes and unfortunately

i think

it’s being aggravated by the excessive

amount of fiber that you’re consuming

and if i’m not mistaken you said you

were

a vegetarian or a vegan correct

yeah yeah

so i suggest

you may want to switch to being a

carnivore

and i’m just kidding because you

probably aren’t going to do that but um

you probably would eliminate

okay

do an experiment okay for two days

just eat eggs

no vegetables

nothing but just eggs

and then let’s see if the diarrhea goes

away i think it will so i think there’s

some type of problem you’re gonna you

might have to

build up your microflora

and kind of have less fiber right now

and to reestablish

your bowel movements

okay

actually uh one more thing i have is a

hereditary angioedema so

basically uh

i have this kind of uh

swelling on my face sometimes

so

i am doing basically to you know cut the

inflammation from the body so that i get

relief in that

is that the right way i mean

so you said you injured your face

no i have a hereditary angioedema you

know the condition autoimmune edema

so um

like i said with the autoimmune the best

remedy for that

would be the high levels of vitamin d3

which you can watch my video on ms not

that you have ms but you can check that

out the other thing that’s interesting

that about that is that

autoimmune comes from the gut

and you do have

a gut issue

so i think

this is all connected

um

you know

the egg

is literally the perfect you can live on

eggs just fyi

you can literally live on eggs so i’ll

be very curious

to find out

maybe you can come back next week to let

us know how you do when you just eat

eggs

on organic protein powders

it all depends on the source um

you know it’s like these protein pot if

the protein powder is from soy protein

isolate powder i’m very much against

that um

you know the the problem too with

protein powders is that it usually does

not it’s lean it’s like low fat there’s

no fat in it so it’s kind of a

bit of a

refined product um but in certain

recipes especially the keto recipes

as long as you add fat with it i think

it’ll be good

but uh

um there’s a product out there called

the keto brick

very very expensive it’s like 12 for

this one brick but

um

let’s say someone’s trying to gain

weight

and they need to increase more calories

well that one brick is a thousand

calories

and uh

and they make it with um pretty good

ingredients

like it has whey protein powder which is

very very

low fat but they also add in there

a lot of fat and that’s what i like

about it but um

cacao butter and

macadamia nuts and peanut butter and

things like that so

um there are things out there

um i’ll be doing more videos on that too

but um

that’s right very good well speaking of

nuts melody cat from youtube is it

better to consume nuts that are roasted

or soaked in water how about vegetables

raw or cooked

well with nuts it’s better to soak them

and then dry them out because when you

heat them you you do destroy certain

things however when you heat them you

also get rid of the enzyme inhibitors

and the fat that you reduce the phytic

acid so that’s great

but wouldn’t it be nice to preserve

all the new or as many nutrients as you

can by germinate them which you soak

them water and then you dry them out um

i did a video on walnuts and i mentioned

this company that

sprouts their walnuts and

i mean those are really really good and

it’s already done for you because it is

a pain in the butt to soak them and

especially dry them out

it takes time effort

and some most people don’t have that

time so um

you can just buy them um sprout it’s

organic sprouted i think it’s called

was it terra

terra something i can’t remember what

but it’s a great great company that i

recommend i don’t i’m not affiliated

with them but it’s it’s a good product

so i would always recommend that all

right that’s terrific let’s go back to

hi um

i’ve been

doing keto for two weeks and i have a

problem with waking up between two and

three in the morning

with

um a severe headache

i’m shaky i

ache all over

i feel terrible

and i just wonder do you have any advice

for me

yeah

um i think what’s happening

is that um

you’re in this transition phase with

keto

and

you may have had

some

insulin resistance in the past and then

you’re going into this and the liver

is kind of waking you up because

it’s going to

have to make glucose out of non-glucose

things and there could be some fat in

the liver could be some some issue with

the liver that your body’s having a hard

time doing that and then that ends up

affecting your blood sugars if you were

to check your blood sugars in the middle

of the night

i bet you they would be off

um

so

what do you do

well

before you go to bed i would take or in

the evening i would take a little apple

cider vinegar with water that’s number

one that will help you greatly

i would definitely make sure you’re

doing it

by the book like you’re doing my version

of keto and then the third thing is

making sure that you’re consuming the

additional nutrients like at least

nutritional use for the b vitamins and

electrolyte

powder because

that way you won’t you’ll have a lot

less

negative effects from the keto because

your body’s requiring more nutrients but

i would focus in on doing things to

strengthen the liver

to reduce these symptoms that you have

it’s just going to i think over time

it’s going to go away but right now you

need to do something to resolve that so

um

it’s really liver and blood sugars

that’s what it is

see sixty percent say fasting is

controlled eating starving is no eating

at all thirty percent say starving loss

of muscle mass fasting does not cause

starving is bad for your organs and

that’s all they said

so so many people have this idea that

fasting and starving is the exact same

thing and they and they are they’re

against intermittent fasting because

it’s a it’s a form of starving

um well our bodies were designed

and developed

over a very long period of time

uh through starving

so we’re all here because we we’ve

starved and we can we overcame that um

but

but what happens when you don’t eat is

or

you um you tap into your fat reserves

when you run out of your fat reserve

and now we have no more fat

your body is going to start eating its

muscle up

and that

is starving when you’re relying you’re

eating the muscle if you have fat on

your bones which even thin people do

they have like roughly about a hundred

thousand calories

a fat a lean person

then your body is not going to go after

the muscle it’s going to go after the

fat first and deplete that

so

you’re not

when you start this program you’re not

going to starve okay

um

and plus

how could you be starving if you’re

feeling so wonderful like the cognitive

improvements your mood

um that’s not

starving oh absolutely okay uh doc

yeah you should see

true or false weighing yourself is the

best way to know if you’re losing weight

so um my question is

okay um i have a lot of

nodules

and cysts on my thyroid

and i

have severe

osteoporosis

i’ve read a lot about the

keto diet and that that

that’s the way to go however

i’m concerned that

the

high intake of animal

products that have

a lot of saturated fat also the animal

products are inflamed

you kind of i got some of it that i

think you uh your your mic kind of went

out of

tune for a little bit i missed the last

part

so we do have nodules on the

thyroid osteoporosis i got all that uh

what else did you catch doc

doc you there

let’s see oh she’s talking i’m sorry

and

that it’s in i got the question yeah i

got the question now um

yeah i

um

the animal fats the saturated fats um

i do not think that’s going to create

inflammation it only if you’re doing it

with carbs because um

especially if you’re dealing with these

nodules here usually the nodules are

coming from some estrogen source

estrogenic source

so one of the a good thing to take to

help buffer

the um the estrogen dominance is some

seek help

that’s really good for nodules

in the thyroid unless you have a

hyperthyroid and it’s also good for

fibrocystic breasts and

also cysts on the ovaries

so um where would that estrogen be

coming from well um it could be coming

from

soy uh it could be coming from

some plant-based source

um

it also could be coming from your liver

being not working that right but

so i think um

instead of focusing on the saturated

fats i would avoid

the unsaturated fats that are more

inflammatory

like

the the seed oils those are very very

dangerous and very inflammatory and not

not very good for your thyroid so

um i know you hear a lot of stuff out

there against saturated fats but

um

a lot of that is based on observational

studies which are questionnaires

and it’s just

it’s it’s worse than a guess i mean

there’s that’s really not even a

scientific

study when they do observational trying

to get you’re forcing people to remember

something

that they ate from maybe

months ago

like

i don’t even know what i ate like last

week

so

anyway that’s that’s my my thoughts on

that um you did mention one thing you

said

cysts on the o i’m sorry you have uh

cysts on your thyroid but you said

something else i know i don’t know if it

was just that you’re worried about ldl

or you was there another problem as well

oh unfortunately she has frozen up on

the screen let’s see

i don’t think she can hear your doc well

i hope let’s get carolyn back in in a

so anyway our final question

asked this was a true falsehood

weighing yourself is the best way to

know if you’re losing fat and the

audience put it all on on one number and

they said a hundred percent false

yeah weighing yourself

tells you how much weight you lost but

there’s a big difference especially in

the beginning when you do this uh

differentiating between fluid

and actual fat

um the other thing too is that

so many people especially women have um

and it looks identical to fat it looks

like cellulite

and if you

um

do this program correctly you’re getting

all the right nutrients and your

atrophy starts healing

and you start

growing more muscle

um

your

your weight loss is going to be kind of

flat line

uh because your body has your your the

weight of your protein is per per size

is more than actually the fat

and the other last thing about that is

if some people are plateauing

um it could be especially if you’re just

doing it for like two weeks

realize that your liver will start to

get rid of the fat before the fat in

your belly

so you may actually see

no change in the first two weeks

but if you were to take an ultrasound on

your liver you would see some

great changes with less fat on your

liver but you know who’s going to want

to do that test

interesting okay let’s see if by the way

about to attempt a two-week water fast

yeah you better

make sure that you’ve already done

intermittent fasting for a period of

time don’t just like jump in there also

make sure you’re getting all your

nutrients

like all the nutrients including vitamin

d and

vitamin c and things like that and the b

vitamins electrolytes and sea salt for

sure so

that because we don’t know if you have

enough reserve to last that period of

time without

becoming nutrient deficient

but other than that i would um i think

it’s a really powerful thing to do

i mean

it is the answer to if you have cancer

i’ve done several interviews on

people that have either stage three or

stage four cancer doing fasting and

boy they’ve done fasting food for three

weeks

or more

even four weeks

and yes they lost weight but

positive positive changes with with the

cancer i mean just huge benefits

i mean the doctor can’t even find the

cancer left so i’ve done some

interesting videos on that but there’s

just a lot of benefits from

uh to your immune system to do these

prolonged fasting uh it takes a lot of

discipline but it’s awesome

as a sugar alternative

i like it i like it um sometimes

it might not be the same as sugar

because it might not taste the same so

sometimes they have erythritol

but the combination of both of those

are pretty good they’re pretty good

uh the perfect no

but it’ll give you

a very similar sensation to actual sugar

but without the side effects

okay speaking of sensation patricia from

youtube’s getting cramps i’ve been doing

keto for a month now but am getting

cramps in my calf at night at night time

what can i do to prevent future cramping

magnesium and calcium

those are the two that you need to take

all right that’s uh

knock that right out of the park

bruises easily i’m not on any blood

thinners just vitamin supplements what

can i do to prevent this bruising

well that’s you probably lower vitamin k

vitamin k one is low so

where do you get vitamin k you get it

from these things called

vegetables

dark leafy green

vegetables you can if you don’t like

vegetables just you get some kale get

some blueberries blend it up and drink

that

you’ll get enough vitamin k1 to help

with this bleeding situation

way to reverse macular degeneration

it all depends on how how far it’s gone

but uh we do know that the macula in the

back of the eye

is like a natural um

sunscreen it protects against uv

and blue light

so

the best two

nutrients for that would be

um

zeaxanthin and um lutein

which happen to be in egg yolks okay and

they’re also in other foods as well but

um

um

if you consume

the eating plan that i recommend

and you’re having all these great

vegetables and things and

um eggs um you’re gonna get um

these carotenoids

from that naturally that are gonna

protect

uh against this uh damaging to the

retina to the macula

to the different inside the artery so

the other the other last thing i’ll say

is that you want to really watch out for

the

seed oils

causing that problem as well as sugar

because the sugar will also

take a look at what happens to a

diabetic has high levels of sugar

their macula is just

destroyed

so

the eye is one of the tissues

that gets hammered from a high carb diet

all right speaking of diets rawad from

facebook my sister is on the carnivore

diet

due to her leaky gut but now she has

extreme hair loss even though her

testosterone levels are normal but she

has high prolactin

and free t4 levels how can she correct

this condition

i think she needs to

increase you know more supplements to

help her

i would

do the trace minerals i would also make

sure you’re doing the healthy version of

the carnivore not just

you know just regular this meat like

definitely do eggs and fish

shellfish

uh those type of things and then maybe

um you can tolerate some

some sauerkraut with that you know

that’s one idea as well

well i think there’s a

fasting is a really good thing to do for

that and also avoiding peanuts for a

period of time and then slowly bringing

them back but the thing with the peanuts

is um

you there’s a there’s a technique

called naet that you may want to find a

practitioner in your area and they might

be able to help you as well that can

deal with allergies but

fasting is one of the best ways to deal

with allergies but at that age you want

to make sure that they can do it and

there’s supervision by her doctor

because i’m not

advising that

with younger people

unless they’re supervised so um

that’s my disclaimer steve i’m sticking

to it yeah i would

someone with a a cac score of 50. so is

keto good for that

yeah that’s um it’s fairly low it’s

fairly low so you’re actually in pretty

good shape now of course is a perfect no

um so then you need to get on keto and

then do vitamin k2

and um you can then

retest it in several months but uh a

score of 50

is not bad

yeah that’s definitely addictive because

of the new chemicals in there and the

sugar and the combination the effect it

gives the person um you know you’re

going to have to find a substitute and

sodas out there now that are

keto friendly and um

they definitely are not going to be the

same thing

but um

you’re going to have to go with that the

other thing i would do because these

especially if there’s artificial

sweeteners

uh in some of these sodas um boy does

that affect your gut

so you want to take a good uh probiotic

for that as well but um

that’s the tough ones because some

people really really like this these

sodas but just think about how much

sugar

that you’re you’re consuming when you

consume that it’s just

i mean people drink it like there’s

just like it’s water and uh

not to mention you’ve got phosphoric

acid in there

um

that’s a lot of

negative things going into your body so

just another thing you may want to just

cold turkey it
