welcome back everyone

we are here for another uh question and

answer

we have people in the green room we have

people on social media so um definitely

bring on your questions and anything in

this say is definitely not meant to

replace your medical care check with

your doctor before

doing any things we talk about

wonderful there you go steve terrific

well we’re excited we’ve got uh

invigorating questions and so on why

don’t we uh do something a little

different today let’s kick it off with

our first interesting question dr burke

there you go

so here’s the first question what do you

think about this

what’s worse fructose

or glucose sugar

what’s your thought on that let me know

very good dig into that and also sort of

out of order let’s go through all the

folks that are listening poor terry once

again has swollen fingers uh documenting

everyone that loves your show

and they’re joining us from the uk

canada spain new zealand croatia south

africa bermuda scotland nigeria iran

japan chile the netherlands uh egypt

saudi arabia france pakistan jordan

belgium trinidad and tobago

greece algeria mexico cameroon israel

australia germany sweden which we have a

nice participant on we can’t wait to get

to marta

poland taiwan turkey guyana

libya the philippines macedonia india

norway hungary argentina brazil

switzerland panama the czech republic

italy kuwait portugal iceland the united

arab emirates chile i think already said

that ghana

iraq peru bulgaria hong kong nepal wow

uganda belize

and all across these united states so

once again there is no bigger cultural

breaker than personal health and the

ways to get that we’re all concerned

around that at every corner of the globe

and obviously dr burke you’ve been

touching some people in that regard and

to that end

we’ve been throwing these in a little

bit each week chrissy from youtube she

just wants to say she loves dr berg’s

live fridays so with the with the

thousands of instructive um videos that

you put out that everyone loves dr berg

they also like your show so thank you so

much for that uh chrissy

and uh who else loves the show are the

people that we have in the green room

and i’m gonna bring marta up first

because the poor thing was

you know squashed out of her chance last

week by

the bakeries of the internet and marta

if you’ve unmuted yourself then you’re

on with dr burke

hello

uh i’m completely new to keto i just

been watching new videos for the past

two weeks

but i have done intermittent fasting um

before and

i did 18 hours

and i lost my period after like three

four months

i don’t know why and i read some books

and they wrote like women shouldn’t do

intermittent fasting for more than 16

hours

and so on so

please tell me what happens

yeah you know if you um you’ll hear

everything

every possible thing on the internet

opposing it for it so it’s really hard

to determine

what is the truth of it

but um

you know think about like

even humans in general i mean we’ve

evolved over

a long long period of time where we

didn’t have food so we went

we went past 18 hours very easily

without food and so um

here’s here’s the

kind of like the thing about um

you know that point anytime someone

tells you that always ask them okay

where did you hear that try to get a

reference point are they talking about

the thyroid are they talking about

fertility

if they’re talking about the thyroid

it is true that your

t3 does go down a little bit but within

the normal range

and the reason for that is because your

body’s more efficient it’s more

efficiently burning fuel and so the need

for pumping out

so much uh t3 or t4 is um which is

converted into t3 is going to be reduced

but you you’ll never see a lowering

amount of

um another hormone from the pituitary

called the thyroid stimulating hormone

which is really how they diagnose

hypothyroidism that’ll be normal so

again you know it’s like take it’s kind

of like seeing something on the internet

you know um

there’s

leukopene and tomatoes will reduce your

risk of prostate cancer so then eat

pizza

like

okay so tomatoes are on pizza so that’s

the kind of like level

that people um are going by or

you know they especially if you watch

the news they’ll twist everything so

um or they might say well high-fat diets

have now been shown and proven to um

cause um

heart attacks in cancer

but then you find out it wasn’t a high

fat diet it was a high fat high carb

diet so again

it’s not sure there’s so many

uh hundreds of thousands of women doing

this

for like omads going easily 23 hours

with no food

and they’re perfect they’re doing so

much better with their health it’s

incredible

so

that’s all i have to say about that

point

so

if because i started the intermediate

again

let’s say if that happens again it’s not

a big deal

what was that can you say that last part

uh if my period

yeah i think

she was saying if she loses her period

again you know what should she do

oh okay okay

um

so

if your

cycle becomes off all that means is

you’re going into it probably with some

nutritional deficiency so i would

beef up the amount of nutrition

that you you consume and some key things

related to that especially if we’re

dealing with the ovary would be the

omega-3 fatty acids for sure you want to

have more of that and i think in sweden

they do have a lot more omega-3 in the

at least fish i would imagine

never been there but i’ve heard because

you hear about like the cod liver oil

comes from norway and things like that

um so um so you have that and then also

um the trace minerals uh very important

in fertility there’s i’m going to be

releasing a video

related to

the cycle

and some of the best things you should

do so stay tuned for more of that

because there’s more information on that

but

i know this might not sound appetizing

but

one of the best things for the um for

fertility in general and also your cycle

is uh fish eggs

i know that sounds appetizing caviar

right um

right so i think that would be a good

thing to take um to

for fertility and also just uh get that

cycle going

and

let’s say for example

there’s a tendency to have like

long-term insulin resistance whether you

have like

polycystic ovarian syndrome which a lot

of women have and then they lose their

cycle

but they still have this insulin

resistance underneath it they have to

correct that just takes time so they get

on keto

and um

they need to really um bring their carbs

way down so like if you’re if you’re

just doing intermittent fasting without

changing the diet um

i would say then get on keto the healthy

version and that should solve your

problem right there

but i’m sure i’m just assuming i’m i’m

assuming your diet is perfect already so

we probably

you know we don’t need to

that is if i i can comment

a lot because i was doing something

and i was a lot of beans

and

they didn’t have much like meat or fish

and i guess

that kind of

made the the problem with the period

makes total sense

okay

good i think you know what to do

all right well thank you so much for

representing sweden so wonderfully that

was terrific and let’s see uh do we have

any answers to quiz questions yet

okay uh standby we’re working on that

and let’s now let’s go to social media

just one moment folks okay and here’s

some questions by the way terry was very

kind he said there was a couple people

that had submitted questions last week

and waited a long time to get an answer

so we’re going to throw them or rather

didn’t get them mentioned so let’s start

off with helene from youtube i’ve been

doing healthy keto and i have but uh but

my cholesterol has jumped to 283 should

i stop doing keto

well just just take

a step back and think about what’s

happening right so we just switched from

running on glucose to fat fuel so you’re

you’re going to have more fat you’re

going to be running off your fat

for the first time for probably a long

time a lot of people do and so when

you’re releasing the fat cell

fat from the fat cell you’re releasing

triglycerides it’s used for energy and

also releasing some cholesterol that’s

built in the fat cells so it has to come

out some way

if you did an advanced lipid profile you

would see in fact did i release that

video today i might have released it

today or yesterday but um

the um

yes i think it was today you should

watch the video release today because

there’s way better indicators

for cardiovascular problems than just

the cholesterol or even the ldl

and you should watch this because um

they don’t really emphasize these other

better predictors or risk factors um so

higher ldl and higher cholesterol don’t

really give the whole picture of what’s

really going on and

if by chance you’re concerned if you

wanted to lower it a little bit i would

recommend taking some mild salts um that

will help to in choline that will help

to kind of keep things broken up but

typically if you’re on keto and you’re

doing low carb yes your cholesterol will

be higher but it won’t be

the negative

part the negative cholesterol that tends

to create um vascular damage

and so

i mean even my wife i had her doing an

advanced lipid profile test and

her ldl was like off the chart and then

we looked into it and we’re like wow now

these are not the small dense particle

size

so um they’re the large buoyant so they

don’t

invade the artery wall

so

i consume a tremendous amount of fat

myself

my cholesterol to go up but all the

other factors like my

coronary artery calcification test is uh

completely normal zero

so and that’s a way better predictor

probably the best predictor for

heart disease and many other things so

uh cholesterol is just one one factor

well that’s reassuring doc and what this

is also reassuring is our audience

vigorous uh response to your questions

and our first question today asks which

is worse fructose or glucose and our

audience sixty percent of them said

glucose and forty percent said ah it’s

fructose

okay so

i’m gonna do a video today when i’m done

on fructose and fructose is actually

worse i’m gonna tell you why

now fructose is

low on the glycemic index

but

it’s because it’s only uh that all your

cells in your body cannot metabolize

glucose on fructose only your liver

cells so

unfortunately

the problem with fructose is that it uh

the liver is is forced to deal with it

and

there’s a whole bunch of problems

associated with that from increasing

more cortisol

to increasing more visceral fat

to lessening your um

your insulin sensitivity giving you more

insulin resistance

uh more um

and visceral fat is the belly fat so

you’ll get more of that and of course

i’m not even talking about um

just necessarily from the high fructose

corn syrup

but fructose and other sugars including

honey and it’s also in fruit

so um

you know i get so

so many

people that are upset when i talk about

fruit having fructose and the problems

with that

so i’m gonna go into that a little bit

more but um

you know there’s really no difference

between the fructose in high fructose

corn syrup and the fruit fructose and

fruit other than fruit has more

antioxidants it has

some more vitamins but nutritionally

it’s not that

nutrient dense

so

stay tuned for more more data on that

okay so the effects of an apple a day

may surprise you

the old maxim if that’s what that is

okay let’s go back to social media all

right let’s see so hello dr berg even on

keto i am struggling with a really low

blood pressure i could use your advice

today i fainted twice while sitting in

the hair dresser’s chair i hope they

didn’t give her a mohawk that would

cause that what’s up doc with that

did did she did she say that she was on

keto uh yes she let me just double yes

even on keto i am struggling with really

low blood pressure

yeah so um

typically what you need to do is

increase more sea salt and that should

handle it um because the volume of blood

is lower and the pressure is lower and

you lose a lot of sea salt

when you lose a lot of water retention

when you go on keto

but

so that’s one thing

low blood pressure could also possibly

mean

adrenal

weakness and things like that and

there’s a lot of solutions to that

supporting the adrenal on my youtube

channel but if you started keto and then

your blood pressure went down i would

simply add sea salt

but if you always had low blood pressure

then i would look at these other things

but

yeah there’s a really there’s a really

great um

probably new information for people

related to sea salt in general of course

i don’t need to tell you that sea salt

is better than table salt

but there’s a lot of variation between

different types of sea salt

i have a new salt on my

my website dr berg.com that is very very

different and unique in that

most sea salt has like 98

sodium chloride right and then you have

the rest trace minerals so the one that

i have that i recommend is 77 sodium

chloride so that allows for a lot of

room for these other minerals potassium

magnesium and all the trace minerals

so

um

it’s just a completely different taste

when you put it on food it gives a i

think a tremendous amount of flavor and

a different taste and plus you’re

getting like a lot of other minerals so

something to check out

uh if you if you already get sea salt

that that would be one i would

experiment with

very good okay let’s kick it off with

the next question this one a true falser

all right osteoporosis is a calcium

deficiency true or false

all right audience climb on that one and

here’s uh someone from youtube i believe

i have lipoprotein deficiency what

changes much i do to a keto diet

lipoprotein so your lipoproteins are

deficient

on that question i would need a lot more

data i’m sorry um

what specific lipoprotein are you

talking about there’s quite a few

different ones

so you talking about

hdl what are you talking about

uh vldl you know i don’t know what

you’re talking about so

i can’t really answer that can you give

me some easier questions steve

absolutely well i’m going to scold this

one and i hope this person

gets back with us with a little more

detail which gives me an opening on mine

i had blood work lately and my glucose

is in perfect shape uh you know my

cholesterol is a little bit high but all

the numbers are just great i used to

have sort of elevated liver enzymes and

they’re all in the normal range and you

know it’s uh intermittent fasting and

following as best as i’m willing

a low-carb diet i’m not perfect at it

but i’ll tell you what there’s there’s

results there’s

you know good results

for every you know effort you put in

this you get back twice this has been my

experience so i’m very grateful for that

doc i’m not a poster child but i’m well

on my way

hey steve do you do you uh tend to be

like more

salty type snack things or is it more

sweet type things well salty but that’s

only because i’m trying to discipline

myself the sweets i just am addicted to

and if i you know get a volcano cake i’m

done i’m out on the races that’s it’s

off the wagon for me but i do like salty

i do like salty stuff and once again my

glucose is right in line it’s i don’t

know 85 or something which i don’t think

is high

no that’s pretty good steve

so what happens as you do keto for a

period of time

your blood sugar can go down to the 70s

even 60s and even a little bit lower and

some people might say oh that’s

hypoglycemia but you feel perfectly fine

but really it’s just a new adjustment

it’s not hypoglycemia with all the other

symptoms that come with it so um

if uh one little kind of tip

if if you have salt cravings

i’m sorry sweet cravings um one thing

that can help is to add more sea salt

it tends to decrease the need for

the sweet sensation so add more sea salt

to your diet steve

so put more salt on your food and

you know get a high quality sea salt i

think that your

cravings will be even better well that’s

wonderful

or lessened yeah well that’s great well

i’ll tell you what it’s noon where i’m

at right now and i have absolutely no

uh hunger pangs no desire for food and

by three o’clock i just sort of put on

the schedule so the combination of

moderately lowering at least in my case

um you know carbohydrates which drive me

crazy and make me

you know

feel a great desire to eat sugary stuff

and intermittent fasting has been a

miracle nothing else in my life has been

not only sustainable but easy to sustain

i’m just not hungry and once i started

i’m enjoying my food but it’s just an

absolute miracle for me because i am not

the poster child for patience or

discipline

so there you have it all right thanks

doc i think i’ve had enough time

uh discussing my issues and by the way

this is right after telling those folks

in the green room to keep it short then

i go upstairs

i told him i’m the worst at that so

anyway

i apologize for that

let’s see uh ivana from facebook does

drinking fermented way interrupt

intermittent fasting

um

she’s drinking whey protein that’s

fermented or just drinking fermented

um

like kefir

well she said whey protein i don’t know

if that’s a

translation i’ve never um i’ve never

heard about fermented whey

whey protein carter i

it’s a new one to me but i i think if

you were doing uh fermented keto which

is a different protein

um and milk um

you know it does have a little bit of

sugar i will say that okay but but

it’s one of the

best

probiotics that you could take i mean

it’s like loaded with some serious

combinations just like if you compare

that to yogurt it’s like way way better

you have all the friendly yeast

and you can actually make it

and i’ve done a video on recommending

making it and then helping you sleep too

but um

so it takes like 12 to 24 hours to make

if you if you have a little starter

micro thing and then um

yeah it’s a

you know it doesn’t always come out

perfect but

there’s a little arc to it and you can

get work on that and then

now you can keep making more and more of

it so if you can find raw milk to make

it from that’s even better and

those microbes

eat up that lactose and

then they help you with all these

amazing

properties so

yeah it’s really cool stuff

interesting that’s great okay here’s a a

question that i think we can understand

shalina jan or jane five years old niece

gets sick often with either viral or

bacterial infections how can we increase

her immunity

now here’s one point i want to bring up

with kids

it is normal for kids to get sick in

fact you want your kid to get sick

not i mean not excessively but

some people are really freaking out

because oh my gosh my child got sick and

then they do something to reduce the

fever or the cough but this is when a

child is born they have

the mother’s innate immune system are

part of it so they’re born with that

and then they develop and acquire

something called the acquired immune

system which is another which you have

to actually get sick to acquire it you

have to go through training

and exposure to microbes to develop this

and so

you don’t want to

you don’t want to kind of suppress that

you want to allow that to happen allow

the fever to go through the process make

sure you feed the child

correct foods but then allow them to go

through the cycle and then recover from

it

so

that being said how do we decrease the

duration how do we

do this as minimal as possible well you

make sure that the child has enough

vitamin d

exposure to their diet if you wanted a

good liquid vitamin d i do have one that

has the k2 in it because sometimes kids

can’t take pills or get them out in the

sun and then a good trace mineral for

the zinc that’s really important and

then vitamin c um so

um

and then you know lay off the junk food

and these kids and then just let them

you know um

there’s a fascinating fascinating

um

risk factor for autoimmune disease and

it really has to do with uh it’s called

the high um what’s it called it’s called

the hygiene hypothesis where these kids

are brought up in very sterile clean

environments so the cleaner the

environment the more chances they

develop allergies and autoimmune

diseases later in life

because they haven’t developed this

immune system so i guess it all boils

down to um

you know allowing kids to play in the

dirt right

you know with their animals and

especially even kids on farms they have

a better immune system so

um

let them get dirty steep okay let your

kids get dirty well

they love it they love it okay and the

audience loves your questions and the

latest one uh asks true false

osteoporosis i’m sorry perosis is a

calcium deficiency and the audience

didn’t appear to be tricked uh only 20

of them say it’s true and the rest of

them 80 say false

if it was a calcium efficiency all you’d

have to do is take the calcium and fix

your osteoporosis and apparently that

does not work in fact it may make your

bones a little bit more dense but it

doesn’t decrease the risk of fractures

in fact it increases the risk of

myocardial infarction so you increase

your risk of getting a heart attack

which is really bizarre

i think the recommendations for calcium

are way too high like a thousand

plus um

milligrams so if you take that much

calcium especially in the form of

calcium carbonate

oh my goodness you’re gonna you’re gonna

have some problems i mean just just take

take a look at one of the best

predictors for heart attacks it’s the

coronary artery calcification right

that’s calcium in your arteries so then

now you’re gonna actually put more

calcium back into the body when it

already has too much calcium it just

doesn’t make sense so

um

how the way you build bone is uh

by by making sure that you have enough

food-based calcium which has all the

other stuff like the protein

and

one of the best

absolute best sources

of

calcium-rich

food

for bone health would be the raw milk

cheese

okay that would be best and then second

would be like leafy greens things like

that but not the calcium carbonate

supplements um

and trace minerals that’s another really

important one and vitamin c in in leafy

greens things like that so

that’s how you build bone but also most

bone comes from like high cortisol or

low estrogen these other factors as well

so stay tuned for

a video on that one all right let’s go

back to the green room and we’ve got

daniel

up next with you uh and uh he is on with

you daniel ask dr berg gear one brief

question please sir

yes hi dr berg thanks for having me on

the show

um just a quick background i’ve been

doing your um keto uh

plan diet for about three four months

lost about 25 pounds

uh so i’m doing great on that uh but my

specific question i guess is since i’ve

been losing the love handles which they

should not call them love angles because

they’re nothing but dead love um i’ve

noticed that on one side um my my

to me my left side but the

right side

um has a bit more swelling by the

what i believe is the kidney i’ll show

you on the video right here is more on

this spot

uh right here

and then the other side both of them are

a little bit swollen still but one tends

to have more swelling so i’ve been

taking your

uh gallbladder you know the bowel so i

don’t know if that would help or what

would help with that

so this is on the right side correct

that is uh yes on the right okay okay so

um

yeah i highly i highly doubt it’s the

kidney i i think uh it’s probably more

um liver and gallbladder area but

probably liver see when you started this

i think fairly

recently if i’m not mistaken right

you started keto recently yeah so i just

i would just give it more time because

um

chances are

um if you have any weight in the

midsection at all you had a fatty liver

and that does

does take some time because the liver

when it’s fatty and enlarges and it kind

of pushes down right in that right where

you’re pointing because it kind of goes

under uh right underneath that ribcage

can push down and that’s really what

you’re seeing so i think a good

barometer of

success would be over time seeing that

less and less and less and then if

you’re concerned you get an ultrasound

of the liver but the liver

becomes fatty and then it spills off

into fat around the gut and so you get

this visceral fat

and so

you know you got two types of fat you

have the fat that’s right underneath

your skin

um and i’m looking at you right now and

i don’t see a lot of that that’s

subcutaneous fat but then you have this

visceral fat and so there’s a threshold

your body will store it

all those carbs as fat right underneath

the skin for a certain amount and then

boom it goes right to the organs

and in the muscle and

around the organs so that’s kind of what

you’re dealing with right now so if you

wanted to speed that up

um what you can do is you can

three things one is to fast to longer

number two is to bring the carb down

even lower than what you’re doing now

and then the third one is exercise um

so

i think that’s that’s what you need to

do but it’s definitely not kidney the

kidney is so far back into there it’s

like way into your backside so it’s it’s

probably the liver

and then the bile the purified bile

salts is a good idea to take that and

then you may want to take choline as an

extra extra thing and then just give it

time

it’ll it’ll happen

okay great i just started on your on the

gallbladder about a week two weeks ago

so i’m

gonna keep on doing that and see how

that razor thank you great and then try

to use if you’re dealing with what you

told me i would take that bile salt on

an empty stomach not with the meals if

you’re trying to take the fat off the

liver

yeah

all right that’s great well daniel

thanks so much glad we were able to get

you on

and why don’t we go to the next quiz

question doc

and uh

here it is

all right good so true or false uh

taking frost taking calc

taking calcium for osteoporosis will

reduce the risk of getting fractures hmm

okay

that’s a new question for you all right

see if you were paying attention all

right let’s go back to the green room

this time it is susan who’s going to be

far more disciplined than i and get out

a question in uh 30 seconds let’s see

hang on just a second let me get you on

there

all right susan you’re on with dr bird

hi dr burke i am started keto about four

years ago

and um

it was pretty much dirty keto but i had

health issues related to surgeries and

because of your videos i started to see

a big correlation between how i was

eating and the issues i still have

anyway long story short i started the

clean keto i started intermittent

fasting

and

taking the supplements but after three

days on those supplements all of a

sudden

i’ve got this swelling here on both

sides of my neck i mean look how big it

is um

and pain in my shoulders and i don’t

know what to do i don’t know if i should

start all over again or i got all the

wrong issues i mean i did gallbladder

adrenal

keto energy estrogen d3

i’ve been doing it all and i don’t know

what to do now

yeah i’m worried about these things yeah

so um that is what you’re showing me is

um

this uh

extra fat uh from usually you see that

with thyroid

uh sometimes adrenal

so

it’s really difficult to know what it is

because you’re taking everything at once

so here’s what you do stop all the

supplements right now

and see if that goes away yeah okay

and then what we do is we just add one

at a time

and then give it a couple days and just

so we can isolate it because i’m really

curious if they’re if it’s that or maybe

something else i don’t know but well we

have to isolate you know what is causing

that um

what uh how many meals a day do you have

is it uh

one or two two

two okay

and um

when you eat uh those meals do you find

that your appetite

um are you like hungry before you eat or

are you not hungry

honestly i’m not hungry

okay good

so this is what i want you to do

um

when you’re not hungry that tells us

that your body is actually eating your

own fat

and that’s a good thing so what we want

to do now is we want to ride the wave

and really kind of

tweak things to make it work even better

because your body is telling you hey

listen i’m eating

and then you’re going to feed me again

so like don’t even eat don’t even eat

that first meal until you’re really

hungry and let’s see how long you go

it’s hard because you have

you know my other family involved and

stuff like that but i think that

if you could go to one meal a day that

would uh dramatically

improve things because um

you know the food the eating actually

does increase insulin to some degree no

matter what you eat spill if one meal a

day i think would be a great next step

for you and then make those changes with

the supplements

awesome oh thank you i just didn’t know

where to go next

yeah thanks yeah well that’s great well

susan

thanks that’s great we’d love to hear

back from you susan after you start to

roll through that experiment it’s always

fascinating to find out how everyone

improves okay let’s go to the latest

quiz

you bet

all right let’s get the latest quiz

question and it asks taking calcium for

or osteoporosis will reduce the risk of

getting fractures

and i remember dr berg sort of shaking

his head there a little bit hang on get

rid of that there we go and the audience

only five percent said it was true doc

so we’re proud of them i guess and 95

false

i think i should have changed the

question to

um how many of you guys are really

paying attention

to what i’m what i’m telling you and i

think it’d probably be like 95 right wow

because i actually i gave away that

answer um

so um i just was a test to see if you’re

listening that’s what it was and most of

you are so well done on that test

but um yeah calcium believe it or not uh

did not

and this it stirred up a lot of

controversy because there’s so much data

they just kind of people are like

surprised and scientists are surprised

like wow this is not decreasing

fractures so

bone is made of a lot more than just

that one mineral calcium it’s

made from

magnesium phosphorus

sulfur

boron

zinc it’s made from a lot of it and

protein too so you need a lot of things

to build bone and so if you do have

osteopenia or osteoporosis

i would

take a good trace mineral eat eat

mineral dense foods and then just

stick with it because it takes to

reverse osteoporosis it could take

about six years it doesn’t happen

overnight it’s not like a little it’s a

big deal when you actually lose bone

it’s a big deal

and um i think even

right before i went to college i think i

actually had some

some us like maybe probably some

weakening of the bone not total

osteoporosis because i had a fracture

really at two fractures very easily but

it was because i was starving myself

in wrestling

and uh not eating the best foods so i

was doing like the

low calorie and

um

junk food diet that’s the worst it’s

like imagine not even dirty keto but

eating junk food and starving and

nutrient dense all the same time

well that’s that’s a perfect combination

for

a lot of problems

well the world is glad you survived all

that

okay let’s go to youtube hi dr berg i

heard that most salt includes including

sea salt himalayan salt etc are loaded

with heavy metals including mercury

what’s your take on that

well um

it’s not it might be most salt so you

want to find something that comes from a

pristine

uh part of the like an ocean like uh the

one that i have is from the um sea

cortez

uh which is very very clean but you’re

right if you’re getting sea salt from a

dirty ocean that’s filled with plastic

and heavy metals then you’re gonna

so you don’t want to just get any

anything like um

there are also

other types of salt that

are mined from mount from mountain areas

or

even um

like there’s one salt that i use for my

animals on the farm and it’s uh it’s

this mine deep in kansas

and uh

so they also use the salt for um

you know

ice patches on your

on your um

on your driveway

so it’s uh it’s gray

and uh the animals love it i’m still

waiting for them to come out with a

diversion for humans but it’s very low

in

heavy metals and it comes from an

ancient ancient

seabed that

before there was all these different the

pollution basically

so

that’s my long question to a short

answer

okay mary this is from mary on facebook

what is the most common cause for panic

attacks

that’s a um adrenal overload

most

most of the time nutritionally speaking

it’s a low vitamin b1

so

i mean i think you should do an

experiment and this would be a great

experiment if you’re in a panic attack

just take some b1 and just watch what

happens within about three minutes it’s

like

oh i can i can breathe i feel calmer but

then the breathing

is key too you don’t want to

hyperventilate when you have a panic

attack you want to slow the breathing

down

in for about four seconds and out for

four seconds and that will pull yourself

out of a panic attack believe it or not

the more you breathe

you’re thinking you’re getting more

oxygen but it’s locking

it’s locking up

your oxygen so you need a certain amount

of co2 to allow the oxygen to be

exchanged

um

and so just

you know too much oxygen and not enough

co2 can can create some problems it

sounds counterintuitive but there’s a

reason for that and it’s in one it’s in

my video on panic attacks by the way

all right dr berg.com everyone

okay and speaking of a calming effect my

hair has been thinning and i just

brought your nutritional yeast pills

which doctor you know i’m a fan of how

do i take them

um

the nutritional yeast you have i would

chew them because they’re big pills and

chew them and uh you could crush them up

and put them in different foods like a

shake or something like that but um

you know we tried to we’re trying to

make a little bit smaller but um the

problem is

most b vitamins are synthetic

and if most nutritional yeast is

fortified with synthetic vitamins so we

found a source that is not enhanced with

synthetic so uh the question is

how do you put it in a tablet or a

pillow so

um this way we you and i think you like

it steve but you chew them and then it

goes right in

i don’t find them that bad so i we put a

little bit of vanilla natural flavoring

in it and so

it’s not too bad

well i don’t want to i love them and i

love the nutty taste but it’s a

an acquired taste my wife not to

disparage your products calls them

armpit pills when she eats one and

that’s just an awful thing to say but

they’re delicious

yeah that’s uh i wouldn’t wouldn’t

describe them as that no take take that

with a grain of salt and even if she

says that i just munch them down and

they’re delicious so once again

so so i think um

you mentioned go to doctorberg.com i

just want to tell everyone i finally

yesterday um

had my new app updated so it’s a free

app if you go to on your cell phone just

look for dr berg app

and it’s really cool because it’ll give

you

all the videos and the audio versions

and my quizzes and

some additional pdfs and that way

if by chance in the future anything

shuts down

on youtube or anything you’ll have these

videos there

on an app and it’s all updated and bug

free so i think you’ll like it um

i i was impressed with it so

check it out wonderful enjoy those

nutritional yeast tablets they’re

delicious according to me okay just

finished a three day fast

excuse me

thank goodness for the cough button

just finished a three-day fast lost 10

pounds well let’s just come back when i

eat again

um

if you if you are um

bloated when you eat because you’re

maybe doing the wrong foods or maybe too

much fiber and you you have some ibs and

things like that you can create a lot of

fluid retention and gain weight and it

seems like it’s fat but it’s not

um

i don’t think someone can really gain

weight on keto if they’re doing it right

unless they’re doing massive massive

calories

so um

so i guess that’s my answer and i i

i don’t really know exactly what you’re

eating when you’re eating it so i can’t

really answer that fully

all right i’m going to give you a two

for dr berg two questions on social

media

that are sort of opposite hey dr berg

been in keto for more than four years is

there any way to gain weight without

giving up keto and then another one says

does the iaf uh or keto um you know do

you become a immune to it in other words

not losing weight so one person wants to

gain more one thinks that it’s become

ineffective or

whatever well um with the person who

wants to gain weight um you might want

to bring your carbs up to 50

50 grams per day okay that’s one thing

secondly you want to increase your

calories

increase your calories so um you might

want to add more keto

desserts and more fat to your diet so

you can keep your calories up and then

and then lift

um lift weights and do more exercise uh

lower reps to try to increase your

muscle mass so that’s how to gain weight

if you wanted to um

if you do keto and your your body

becomes very efficient and now it’s you

can’t lose weight anymore um then what

you do is you um

i have a

a new video that i will release this

next week on

extreme weight loss and that’s what i

would do

it’s a bit radical but it’s what some

people need

to bust through that set point to really

get a more weight off and it it goes

through all the things like check you

know for your stress

sleep

uh hidden

hidden sugars and also um

if you’re trying to

lose weight and you’re doing the regular

thing i would cut down on the extra fats

in the diet because that way it’ll force

your body to burn its own fat

but the problem is like

if you think about what fat is

it’s a survival mechanism so it doesn’t

like to go away very easily because

it’s survival it’s there to help

give you reserve if you ever starve

so

you know what we’re trying to do is

trying to correct

the excess

fat that you have and to do that

it does take uh some time and you have

to leverage

a lot of things some for some people

that have a slow metabolism especially

if they have a history of dieting or a

lot of history of stress

all right folks how about another

question dr berg here it is

okay why do certain um

microbes

like bacteria and viruses block your

vitamin d receptor

why do they do that all right audience

knows i’m sure and they’re going to get

back with you here shortly and why don’t

we let’s so go back to the green room

let’s see now we already had susan

didn’t we oh how about rachel from

ottawa rachel i’m going to bring you up

here

my mouse is not cooperating now it is

rachel you are on with dr byrd

hello

hi

my question is about acid reflux

i understand how acid reflux can be

caused by low stomach acid

and it follows then that drinking apple

cider vinegar can make your stomach more

acidic and give relief

what i don’t understand is why eating

acidic foods like citrus or tomato make

the symptoms worse shouldn’t they have

the same effect as apple cider vinegar

no because the ph of

those foods are are just slightly acidic

um on the scale of things you know

vinegar is like way way down there

because if you look at the the ph scale

you have seven being neutral and then if

you go to six that’s ten times more acid

than

um

from seven

and then if you go to five that’s it’s

compounded times ten so it becomes more

and more acid so um apple cider vinegar

is very very acidic uh you know the

acidic foods are like

just barely acidic

so they don’t they’re not going to

really contribute to your digestion that

much um not to mention there’s a lot of

people that have sensitivity up to some

of these acid foods

um

one thing that i think might make more

sense is to take betaine hydrochloride

because

that will directly increase

more hydrochloric acid because of

the chlorides in it so to make

hydrochloric acid you need several

things you need the raw material

and um

and you also need potassium and other

vitamins and things like that so

um

yeah so i hope that answers your

question

yep yep thank you

sure that’s great well thanks so much

from ottawa place you know i guess dr

berg you traveled all up those places up

north

yeah yeah i spent uh some time in um

canada but i mainly alberta

banff

and uh um that area so and also

vancouver which is amazing but i haven’t

been to ottawa so

i heard i heard it’s beautiful

so yeah we had a little chat about that

absolutely okay so let’s see sandy

what’s the best remedy for poison ivy

well i have a lot of experience in

poison ivy since i had it every year of

my whole life of starting from my 20s

well not my whole life but um

so

there’s jewel

the plant called jewel i think it’s

called jewels

seed or something but it’s a plant that

usually grows right next to uh poison

ivy if you take that and you take the

stock

and you take the juice out of that and

you rub it on your poison ivy that will

greatly reduce the itch

another thing that i would recommend is

of course you know the normal things

that you hear about which is trying to

clean uh this oil off your skin

but

to help the itching um

you put hot water on it in the shower

which is very intense because it can

actually really affect your nervous

system and

until it goes numb and then it gets

really itching for hours and hours and

hours so hot water works

but then of course you know it’s like i

have to

really be careful not to even come

you know three feet next to poison ivy

um and then there’s also um

various um

things that people tried um

which i just i released a video on that

like i’ll give you a series of

all these different remedies

to slow down the itch like herbal

chinese remedies chinese herbal remedies

that help reduce the itch

but

unfortunately

the worst thing you can do is start

itching it i’m scratching it because

then then you’re it’s just going to get

worse and worse and worse so you have to

just leave it alone

and just go through that

unfortunate two weeks until it can heal

and then avoid it like the plague

there’s there’s um some new research uh

that they’re coming up with

that goes into immune type therapies but

it’s all brand new

there really isn’t a lot of

effective solutions for poison ivy

unfortunately right now because i’ve

thoroughly and utterly looked at

everything out there and i have not

found

anything that’s like out yet um

so

yeah and then if you take a steroid for

that then it works but then the next

time you get it it’ll work a little less

work a little less until

finally your it does the steroids make

your adrenals very very um messed up

interesting okay uh 1010 from youtube

and i don’t know if he’s being serious

about this but just in case anybody

thinks there’s some health benefits he

asked what do you think about drinking

seawater

you know

it’s not a bad idea because you have

you have the

sea salts i mean so you have the

different trace minerals and sodium

chloride but you also have

a tremendous amount of um

microbial things in that in the sea

waters not just the minerals there’s a

whole living thing in that seawater that

is uh quite fascinating and they

even use that in agriculture by taking

the sodium chloride out and using

agriculture there’s a product called

sea crop

and also c90 from another company

so there’s all these different

things that they use

for agriculture but

a little bit of seawater it’s not a bad

thing but of course a lot would be very

dangerous so um

so i’m talking about very small amounts

here and there

very good

well mother nature has some benefits

even there let’s see okay so our last or

fourth question rather why do certain

microbes like bacteria and viruses block

your vitamin d receptors and it was sort

of all over the place

not enough fluid uh

potassium

let’s see need probiotics that was the

number one and we’ll see bacteria

imbalance and hormones are we getting to

something there doc

well i i think we’re not getting

anywhere with those questions answers

because

the microbes want to survive right they

want to survive and they know they’re

they’re pretty intelligent they they

know that vitamin d

is your

controlling factor of your immune system

there’s over 19 000 genes that involve

vitamin d3

so um

without vitamin d

you’re not your immune system is not

going to work so um and so the microbes

they they can lock up your receptor

so regardless of how much vitamin d

you’re taking

it doesn’t go in

and so that can lower your immune system

and make things vulnerable and

susceptible to things like autoimmune

diseases which i’m going to

release a very fascinating video on some

surprising

causes to this new epidemic autoimmune

diseases which

i think is even more than heart disease

and cancer

so

so that’s why

microbes do it

and so

the question is how do you overcome that

well

you can actually take

more vitamin d as well and then you can

also take something to

open up and restore

the vitamin d receptor which

one natural thing that i i recommend is

tut cup tub cut can do that

it’s called the vitamin d receptor or a

vdr

analog

so if you wanted to know that not that

you wanted to know that if you wanted to

do research on that but uh

again another answer with too much

information

very very good well

maybe you can answer this for all us

many of us are very uh diligent

and uh

about taking d3 k2 your wonderful

formula you now have it in liquid form

what would uh

when would that be indicated perhaps

over the pill if you don’t like

swallowing pills or for uh kids

it’s great and it doesn’t taste bad it’s

like there’s a little bit of a vanilla

mint

the tiniest bit of stevia so it’s like

it’s not really that sweet but it kind

of uh

it cuts some of the the taste of of the

vitamin d and the k2 but it also has

zinc in there and some

um mct oil and

coconut oil to make it so it absorbs

easy so it’s a really

high quality

with good absorption product for those

people that don’t like taking pills wow

well that sounds fun okay last question

of the day a true fall sir

all right so

keeping your children’s environment

super clean and germ free is a smart

strategy for a good immune system

true or false

all right folks hop on to that one and

let’s see let me uh go quickly back to

social media

i am

a type 1 diabetic and during keto i

sometimes get low

sugar what can i eat drink without

hindering my ketosis as i take insulin

medicine that has both instant and long

acting

insulin

okay so so basically they they’re saying

what do i do my sugars go too low right

right

okay so here’s the thing if you’re type

one

um you don’t make insulin anymore right

so then what happens is you get this

high sugar

but what happens when it gets

too low well then that means

you need to take a lot less insulin

which is a good thing because

all that insulin you’re taking has a lot

of

consequences negative consequences so so

you want to take less and less and less

until

you really have um the normalized sugar

so so um

if your sugar is too low

you know someone might say well just to

eat some carbs it’ll raise it up well

yeah but you’re dependent on insulin

right so why don’t we just lower the

amount of insulin you’re going to find

if you’re doing keto and intermittent

fasting you’re a type 1 diabetic

the need for your insulin is going to go

right down it’s going to go down not to

zero but you have to keep monitoring it

work with your doctor

until you get that sweet spot but i

think it’s great that you need less

insulin it’s kind of like if someone’s

on diabetic medication and their blood

sugar goes low

and everyone’s concerned about

hypoglycemia well maybe you’re just

taking too much medication that’s

pushing your blood sugars lower and

lower and lower

so um

it doesn’t it’s it’s like totally

illogical to me

why someone would then start eating

candy because their blood sugar’s too

low when they’re on these

blood i mean blood glucose lowering

medications it’s just like what that

does not make sense

interesting it’s kind of like if you

you’re on blood pressure medication

right and it’s lowering it oh my blood

pressure’s too low so let me eat more

salt um

why don’t you just lower your medication

you know make some adjustments but

that’s what happens when you get on keto

is the need for medication does

drop

very encouraging okay well i tell you

what the audience leapt on this latest

true falsehood uh which asked

keeping your child’s environment super

clean and germ free is a smart strategy

for a good immune system and nobody’s

buying that doc 100 say that’s

ridiculous

so they were paying attention that’s

correct

i remember when i was in uh

when i was going to undergrad

the

biochemistry teacher

had this

this phobia of germs

and she would just basically take a

handkerchief and open the door and

everything that she touched she made

sure there’s no germs and stuff well

that might be fine for someone older but

for a kid

boy you need those germs to train the

immune system and

you know

think about it i mean we have

trillions

trillions of microbes growing inside and

on our body

and we are completely and utterly

dependent

on microbes we can’t live without them

they help us

so we need these microbes and they’re

germs and they exchange with us most of

them and and if the environment is

unhealthy they can go from bad

good to bad

and so that’s why we have to create a

good environment to exchange with them

they make vitamins they protect the

immune system

and and steve i mean

microbes help make bread

cheese

butter

wine

beer

i mean come on

what more do you want wow yay for

microbes

okay i think vinegar

well there you go kombucha tea is that

microbes and that stuff or something

absolutely kombucha kefir yogurt

um you know they talk about the blue

zones and these people that live a long

long life or in

these cultures that you have

centenarians that live over a hundred

you know

i think i think one of the common

denominators and i’m gonna i still have

to investigate this is they they always

have some type of

fermentated

food fermentation so

uh some some microbial help

that um supports them so

you know this the ideas of

sterile environment

germs are

the enemy

is is not a hundred percent true

pathogens are been studied in science

isolated but we got a whole there’s

communities of microbes involved and so

it’s very difficult to do experiments

on with all these microbes involved

instead we isolated and take this one

germ and put in a petri dish and do all

this testing

unfortunately

we’re not getting all the answers and

i’m just going to say this one last

point about it and then i’ll zip it but

um there’s

we don’t even know probably

one percent

about what’s really going on with these

microbes is just like it’s a huge

unknown a very interesting area of

research but when someone says they have

it all figured out they don’t because

there’s so many

questions that

we don’t know

interesting well doc maybe you’ve got

enough time to talk about your

international product availability we’ve

got about 45 seconds

yeah so if you’re in another country

other than the u.s

there is options to get products

with less shipping expense we’ll put

some links down below i know i get

questions all the time when are you

gonna i can’t afford the shipping well

we’ve been working on that so

more and more we’ll be in other

countries to just make the shipping a

lot less

and one thing i do want to say

about

these products in general

um

you know sometimes i have been

criticized criticized because oh yeah

you have your supplements and uh you

well

here’s the thing would would you rather

have a pharmaceutical company or a

marketer or someone who um

you don’t really know who’s behind the

brand

sell vitamins because a lot of these

vitamins they don’t really care about

the source of where they get the

vitamins

they’ll get it from china they’ll get it

from some place that it’s the cheapest

possible synthetic vitamin and you’re

thinking you’re getting something great

i’m going to let you know that i that’s

the really big thing on my radar is to

make sure that the source

of where you get the stuff comes from

soils that actually are nutrient dense

and i’m all over that i’m very

interested in that because um

that’s really i think gonna be the wave

of the future

and um

unfortunately if you only knew like most

of the vitamins sold out there are from

pharmaceutical companies and chemical

companies

so they’re controlling the the big

market and so um you don’t really know

who’s behind it and you don’t even know

where it comes from so

well thank you for paying attention all

that doc

and on that note uh appreciate all the

questions uh wonderful questions and so

and thanks for all the wonderful

comments too

stay tuned for some more interesting

videos this coming week and i’ll see you

next week same time same place
